Trust me, I’m a farmer. Man, I wish it were that easy.
With all the hype at the golden globes this week going vegan to help fight climate change from animal ag, my mind has been racing. Let me state a couple of facts for you here:
🐄Animal Ag accounts for only 2.5% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
🐄The impact of animal ag on GHG emissions has remained almost constant since 1990. This is DANG impressive because U.S. meat production has increased more than 56% and milk production 30%. (USDA & EPA websites)
PROOF that feed efficiencies, manure management, and crop use have been improving. Like WHAT?! Why aren’t we celebrating these victories?!
This hits home for me. I grew up on a dairy farm and I’m still involved in the dairy industry. I see how hard these farmers work to be as efficient as possible. Efficiency benefits everyone. EVERYONE.
Saying that being a vegan will help solve the climate change problem is not a fair argument at all. Transportation and electricity production make up 57% of GHG’s. FIFTY-SEVEN PERCENT.
How about we carpool, unplug our electric devices when we aren’t using them, lower our AC from running on full blast in the summer, and maybe use an extra blanket in the winter instead of upping our thermostat. Avoiding that private jet and limo ride to the @goldenglobes would help too. My thoughts.
My shirt came from a fellow farm wife friend @bethmariekohler She also makes shirts for RANCHERS! Shop this link for her store and use code MFW20 to get 20% off a shirt from her!
Preach, Sista!
Thanks Kathy! 🙂
AMF (America Needs Farmers) Here is hope for a better 2020.
Thank you Steven!
My family has farmed and loved farming since their origins in Ireland. We are retaining our HOMESTEAD Farm in Wabasha county and have written a contract that will secure ownership after all six of us are gone. Hopefully, the grandchildren will recognize the value of this legacy.
That’s amazing! I would definitely have faith for the grandchildren, especially if they have positive experiences on the farm. 🙂
