Happy Valen-tax Day! We celebrated this morning with coffee and taxes. Super romantic, right? Our dynamic as a couple has changed drastically this year. With me quitting my job and no longer receiving that bi-weekly paycheck from “the man”, we’ve had to make a lot of changes.
It’s not like we’re starving or living without our needs, but you bet your booty I think twice, three times, or even more about each personal purchase I make. This year I also started three small businesses. Never before in my life have I had to create a P&L, and this year I did three.
Working close with Josh on these businesses has brought out both the best and the worst in us. You see, we’re both two very different people. I’m pretty unorganized and often fly by the seat of my pants. I’m a free spirit and hate spending time on mundane things, like taxes. I like to multi-task and often sign up for more than I can handle. (a 7 on the enneagram)
Josh is thorough and on top of things. He sets a due date for himself and has it done three days prior, at least. He’s focused, efficient, and doesn’t mind taking time learning how things work. He also gets frustrated with me when I procrastinate and make willie-nillie decisions. (an 8 on the enneagram)
Learning about each other’s tendencies has really helped us understand and work together more efficiently. I know he needs to be punctual and organized to feel comfortable. He knows I thrive on positive encouragement and not being told what to do.
We disagree sometimes, okay, a lot of times… but we always come to a common ground somehow and agree to tackle things with each other’s interests in mind. I’m glad we’re not the same, because Lord knows I wouldn’t be able to run a business without his support.
There are lots of tests out there to find your enneagram number. Here’s a link to the one we took! https://www.truity.com/test/enneagram-personality-test
